The newspaper article of 3 August 1918, states he was the youngest son of of Mr W Simpson and was a Lewis gunner. Prior to signing up he was postmaster at Carnforth. He was killed by a shell.

Another newspaper adds that a brother of Alfred Simpson of the Land Tithes Office has been killed in action. This sad information was received this morning.
He was only 19 years and was serving in an Imperial regiment. Two other brothers are now at the front. One of them Walter who listed here [Lancaster] in the Engineers having been awarded the D.C.M. a short time ago.

1911 Census shows he was living at 135 North Street, Carnforth with his parents William and Mary and sister Ida. This property no longer exists.
