HOUGHTON Richard Service Record
Sergeant Major 5045 Loyal North Lancaster Regiment 3rd Battalion.
Richard was born 16 May 1878 in Pilling, Wyre Borough, Lancashire, he dies in West Yorkshire.
The 1891 census shows Richard (12) living with his parents John (33), Sarah Ann (33) and his siblings Ellen (9), Elizabeth Ann (6) Clara (2) and Ada 4 1/2 months
They were living in LNWR Cottage in Warton and his father was a railway porter. LNWR was the London North West Railway which built cottages across the west coast as the railways expanded.
The 1901 and 1911 shows only Sarah Ann, (Ellen (1901 census only) Elizabeth, Clara and Ada were at their home which was now in Sedbergh.
Richard attested at Lancaster on the 25 January 1896. He was shot in his left arm on the 13 October 1915 and was discharged from the Army on the 17 September 1916. When discharged he was suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis.
